New York Yankees extend pitching coach Matt Blake

The New York Yankees have signed pitching coach Matt Blake to a three-year contract extension, according to reports from the New York Post. The move follows the retention of manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman as the organization seeks continuity for the 2027 season.

Blake, who has served as the team’s pitching coach since 2020, oversaw a staff that led Major League Baseball in team ERA during the 2026 regular season with a 3.23 mark. Under his guidance, the pitching staff also recorded a 1.88 ERA across five postseason games.

Key developments under Blake’s tenure include the emergence of Cam Schlittler, who posted a 1.95 ERA in 2026, and the growth of starter Will Warren. Despite facing significant injuries to rotation members such as Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Max Fried, the pitching group remained highly effective.
