New York Yankees manage infield roster shifts amid Rays series

The New York Yankees are navigating roster and lineup adjustments as they face the Tampa Bay Rays in a critical late-season series. The team is managing the imminent return of Jazz Chisholm Jr. from a right thumb sprain, a move that creates an infield puzzle regarding second and third base positioning.

Manager Aaron Boone has expressed continued confidence in Ryan McMahon at third base despite McMahon’s recent offensive struggles and defensive decline. Other options for the infield include Anthony Volpe, who has seen playing time at second base, and José Caballero.

In the lineup, rookie George Lombard Jr. has been moved up to the second spot in the batting order. The Yankees, currently holding an American League Wild Card berth, are trailing the Rays in the division race as the regular season nears its conclusion.
