New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried set for rehab return
Aaron Boone said left‑hander Max Fried’s live batting‑practice session “went well,” and the team expects to start a minor‑league rehab assignment as early as Friday, July 18, provided there are no setbacks. Fried has been on the injured list since May 14 after a left‑elbow bone bruise was identified by MRI and CT scans, ruling out more serious ligament damage.
Since returning to live batting practice in early June, Fried has progressed to throwing 36 pitches in a July 5 session and has completed additional bullpen work, moving him closer to rejoining the Yankees’ rotation. His return could bolster New York’s pitching staff, which has been hampered by injuries to Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón and Fried himself, as the Yankees chase the AL East lead.
Manager Boone also noted that Carlos Rodón is making steady progress in his own rehab, with daily throwing sessions and the possibility of bullpen work in the near term. Both pitchers could be back on the mound by early August if their recoveries continue without setbacks.
