New York Yankees pitching rotation nears historic milestone

The New York Yankees' pitching rotation is performing at a high level despite significant offensive struggles and an injury-depleted lineup. A trio of starters—Gerrit Cole, Cam Schlittler, and Max Fried—have demonstrated elite form, with the rotation posting an MLB-best 13.4 fWAR and a 2.91 ERA since July 6.

Schlittler, Cole, and Fried are currently positioned to potentially match a rare statistical benchmark held by the 1998 Yankees rotation, which saw three starters finish with at least 100 innings and an ERA of 3.65 or better. This pitching strength has been vital as the team navigates a period where the lineup has struggled, leaving the staff with little margin for error.

In addition to the rotation, the Yankees' bullpen has seen stability from veteran closer David Bednar and pitcher Brent Headrick. Cole has also shown a resurgence in performance, recording a 2.72 ERA over his last 43 innings, helping the team remain competitive in the AL East race despite being six games behind Tampa Bay.
