Anthony Volpe hits grand slam in Yankees return

Anthony Volpe made a standout return to the Major Leagues on Thursday, driving in a career-high five runs to lead the New York Yankees to a 10-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill in for Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right thumb sprain, Volpe played second base for the first time in his career.

Volpe’s performance included a grand slam in the seventh inning and three hits, earning him a standing ovation and a curtain call from the Yankee Stadium crowd. The win allowed the Yankees to complete a three-game sweep of the Rockies, moving them within three games of the Tampa Bay Rays for the lead in the American League East.

Other notable performances for the Yankees included a two-run home run by Luis García Jr. and three hits from rookie Spencer Jones. For the Rockies, Kyle Karros hit a 431-foot home run. The Yankees' victory keeps them in contention for both the division title and a wild card spot as the regular season enters its final stages.
