New York Yankees secure $2.6 billion capital infusion
The New York Yankees have announced a $2.6 billion capital infusion through a deal involving an arm of Apollo Global Management. This transaction, consisting of a mix of debt and equity, is intended to allow the franchise to refinance or retire a significant portion of its existing debt. While the investment represents approximately 15% of the franchise's valuation, officials stated it does not immediately signal an increase in payroll. Hal Steinbrenner will maintain leadership and decision-making authority, though Apollo Global is expected to have representation on the board of directors.
On the field, the Yankees organization is also making roster adjustments within its minor league system. Pitching prospect Xavier Rivas, a 16th-round pick from the 2024 MLB Draft, has been promoted from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following a period of strong performance.
