New Zealand and Pakistan discuss economic and educational cooperation

New Zealand High Commissioner-designate David Pine met with Pakistani officials in Islamabad to discuss strengthening bilateral relations across economic and educational sectors.

In discussions with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the focus was on enhancing trade, investment, and business-to-business engagement. The High Commissioner acknowledged Pakistan’s recent Eurobond issuance and progress toward macroeconomic stability. Both parties emphasized the importance of private-sector engagement and policy continuity to drive sustainable economic growth and exports.

Separately, meetings with the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training addressed cooperation in education and skills development. Building on an Education Cooperation Arrangement signed in Wellington, the discussions centered on technical and vocational education and training (TVET), higher education, and institutional linkages. Potential collaboration in high-growth sectors, such as information technology and agriculture, was also identified as a priority for human capital development.
