New Zealand announces split ODI squad for India series
New Zealand Cricket has announced a split-squad strategy for its upcoming five-match ODI series against India, scheduled to begin on November 4, 2026. Led by captain Mitchell Santner, the selection aims to manage player workloads ahead of a subsequent two-match Test series.
The squad will be divided into two groups. The first three ODIs will feature key players including Rachin Ravindra, who returns from a shoulder injury, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, and Glenn Phillips. These players will depart after the third match to prepare for the Test series.
For the final two ODIs, seven additional players will join the squad, including Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Seifert, both of whom are making significant returns to the ODI format. Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Will Young, and Blair Tickner are among the players available for the entire five-match series.
Head coach Rob Walter noted that the series serves as vital preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Additionally, the coaching staff is exploring tactical changes, such as potentially moving Finn Allen to a middle-order role to better influence the game during the middle overs.
