New Zealand awards scholarships to 16 Vietnamese students

Education New Zealand (ENZ) held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City to honor 16 Vietnamese students awarded government scholarships to study in New Zealand for 2026. The recipients include five undergraduate students receiving New Zealand Universities Awards (NZUA) and 11 high school students receiving New Zealand Schools Scholarships (NZSS).

Notably, two undergraduate recipients, Nguyen Minh Khoi and Nguyen Hoang Lam, each secured a combined scholarship value of NZ$65,000 (approximately $36,500). This marks the first time the NZUA program has reached this combined total per recipient. The NZUA base scholarship of NZ$15,000 can be combined with additional funding from individual New Zealand universities.

The undergraduate scholars will attend the University of Auckland, the University of Waikato, and the University of Otago. High school scholarship recipients will attend various institutions, including Pukekohe High School, Green Bay High School, Long Bay College, and Nayland College. Additionally, two other Vietnamese students received scholarships funded by individual high schools to attend Auckland Grammar School and Waiuku College.
