New Zealand communities receive recovery funds and hazard surveys

Auckland Council has launched two new community-led wellbeing funds for the Rānui and Henderson areas to support recovery following severe weather events in 2023. Each community has been allocated $150,000 to implement local priorities focused on resilience, connection, and collective action. In Henderson, the Purapura Community Fund is open for applications until September 4, following a vision developed by Te Kawerau ā Maki and the MPHS Community Trust.

Separately, the Rangitikei District Council has commissioned Earth Sciences NZ to conduct a new survey of the Taihape West Slip. The fieldwork, scheduled for late August to early September, aims to improve understanding of the area's landform and condition to support future risk management and planning. The survey will involve visual inspections and the use of existing survey markers, with limited access required to some private properties.
