New Zealand Football withdraws support for Gianni Infantino
New Zealand Football (NZF) has officially withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s candidacy for the FIFA presidency at the 2027 FIFA Congress. The decision follows concerns regarding the erosion of trust and increased division within international football due to FIFA’s recent actions and decisions.
In addition to withdrawing support, NZF is calling for an independent review of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme. This follows a controversial proposal by Infantino to raise approximately $7.2 billion by separating World Cup commercial rights and selling 20 percent in private investment, a plan he was forced to retract following criticism.
The announcement came after a meeting of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) executive committee. The OFC welcomed FIFA’s commitment to review the FFE proposal and related project issues. NZF emphasized the need for strong governance, accountability, and transparency among all FIFA member associations to maintain trust in global sports administration.
