New Zealand and Fiji Renew Five-Year Duavata Partnership

Duavata Partnership New Zealand‑Fiji trade Ocean of Peace security cooperation NZ$2 billion target

On 16 July 2026 in Auckland, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters and Fiji’s foreign affairs minister Sakiasi Ditoka signed a refreshed five‑year Duavata Partnership, renewing the 2022‑2025 framework. The agreement sets cooperation priorities for 2026‑2030 in trade, security, democracy, social development and climate resilience.

Both sides aim to lift two‑way trade to NZ$2 billion by 2030. The partnership deepens collaboration on community policing, border and maritime security, defence ties, renewable‑energy projects, disaster preparedness and broader support for the Pacific as an “Ocean of Peace”. Peters also noted exploratory talks with Fiji and Australia on an Ocean of Peace Alliance. Ditoka will attend the Future of Investment and Trade (FIT) Partnership ministerial meeting hosted by New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay later in the week.
