New Zealand releases 2026 report on atmosphere and climate
Stats NZ and the Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport have released the fourth report in their environmental reporting series, titled ‘Our atmosphere and climate 2026’. This three-yearly update provides data on the state of New Zealand’s atmosphere and climate, explaining how the climate is changing and the pressures contributing to these shifts.
Data analysis indicates that temperatures in New Zealand have increased over time, accompanied by shifting rainfall patterns across the country. The findings are based on long-term data collected from 30 climate stations monitored by Earth Sciences New Zealand, covering indicators such as temperature, rainfall, wind, greenhouse gas concentrations, and extreme weather events.
