New Zealand releases hospitality sector regulatory review

The Ministry for Regulation has released a Hospitality Sector Review aimed at reducing bureaucratic hurdles for New Zealand hospitality businesses. The review includes 24 recommendations designed to make it easier and more cost-effective to open and operate businesses in the sector.

Key areas identified for reform include alcohol licensing, food safety requirements, registration fees, and the efficiency of information flows between regulators and operators. Ministers David Seymour and Louise Upston welcomed the findings, noting that excessive red tape and complex, multi-agency processes have hindered the industry's ability to recover following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hospitality NZ has also expressed support for the review, stating that the recommendations could improve certainty for businesses and encourage better growth and investment decisions by creating a simpler and more efficient regulatory system.
