New Zealand tech firms reach NZ$133 billion in enterprise value

A report by Dealroom and NZ Growth Capital Partners estimates the combined enterprise value of New Zealand’s venture-backed companies at NZ$133 billion. The tech ecosystem includes more than 400 firms, featuring eight unicorns with valuations or exits exceeding US$1 billion. Notably, the sector includes two decacorns, aerospace firm Rocket Lab and financial services provider FNZ, both valued at over US$10 billion.

The report highlights that New Zealand generates high enterprise value relative to the amount of venture capital invested when compared to peer innovation economies. However, it also raises questions regarding the retention of economic benefits. While many successful companies are founded in New Zealand, more than ten billion-dollar businesses created by Kiwi founders have been built offshore in sectors such as software, fintech, and artificial intelligence.
