New Zealand voter enrollment deadline approaches

The deadline for New Zealanders to enroll or update their details for the upcoming general election is midnight on Sunday, 25 October. Under new electoral rules, voters can no longer enroll at polling stations during advance voting or on election day; they must be registered by the Sunday cutoff to participate.

Electoral Commission figures indicate that approximately 91.5% to 92% of the eligible population is currently enrolled. However, enrollment among young voters aged 18 to 24 remains a concern, with roughly one-third of eligible individuals in this demographic still unenrolled. Current data shows approximately 67% to 69% of this age group is registered.

Chief Electoral Officer Karl Le Quesne has urged citizens to use online services, enrollment hubs, or paper forms to ensure they are ready to vote. Advance voting is scheduled to begin on Monday, 26 October, with election day set for Saturday, 7 November.
