Newark Airport and Buenos Aires transit accidents leave multiple injured
Two separate transportation accidents occurred on Monday, resulting in multiple injuries in the United States and Argentina.
At Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, an employee shuttle bus crashed into a concrete barrier on the Terminal B Departures Level 3 roadway around 3:00 a.m. The collision, which reportedly involved the bus jumping a curb, left 13 people injured, including three in serious condition. While the injuries were not considered life-threatening, the crash caused significant damage to the vehicle and required the temporary closure of the terminal roadway. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is investigating the cause of the accident.
In Buenos Aires, Argentina, an escalator collapsed at the Dr. Antonio Sáenz station on the Belgrano Sur line. The incident, described by emergency officials as a “technical malfunction,” resulted in 11 injuries. Five of the injured individuals were transported to local hospitals, including Hospital Piñero, Hospital Penna, and Hospital Cecilia Grierson. Trenes Argentinos stated that the last preventive maintenance on the escalator was performed on August 13 and has launched an investigation into the cause of the failure.
