Newark Police investigate shooting near University of Delaware

Six people were injured in a shooting on East Main Street near the intersection of Choate Street in Newark, Delaware, on Halloween night. The incident occurred at approximately 11:13 p.m. near the University of Delaware campus, where crowds had gathered for celebrations.

According to the Newark Police Department, at least four victims, aged between 15 and 19, were transported to a trauma center with multiple gunshot wounds. Other victims were treated for various injuries, including a reported graze wound. While social media reports suggested fatalities, police have not confirmed any deaths.

The University of Delaware issued an emergency alert advising the campus community to avoid the area. Law enforcement closed Main Street between Library Avenue and Academy Street for several hours to process the scene. Authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to public safety, and the investigation into the motive and the identity of the shooter is ongoing.
