NEWART Centre hosts international new media art exhibition

The NEWART Foundation is launching ‘And Praxis: The Pioneering Generation of New Media Art’ at the NEWART Centre in Reus. The exhibition features works from over thirty international creators who helped define the concepts and languages of contemporary digital art.

Key highlights include Paul Sermon’s installation ‘Homo Telematicus’, which connects participants from ten different countries to Reus in real time, and the presentation of the first perfume ever created specifically for robots. The exhibition explores the intersection of art, science, and technology through disciplines such as bioart, generative art, virtual reality, and social robotics.

Dedicated to the memory of Vicente Matallana, the project was driven by Matallana alongside Paul Thomas and Jaime de los Ríos. Eschewing traditional curation, the exhibition follows the motto ‘Non-Curated but Worked with Love,’ allowing artists to select and sometimes remaster their own representative works for a plug-and-play cloud format. The initiative serves as a living archive to document and preserve these works against technological obsolescence.
