Penang International Airport newborn found in sanitary bin

A newborn baby boy was discovered alive inside a sanitary bin in a restroom at Penang International Airport on August 31. A cleaning worker found the infant after hearing cries coming from the bin. The baby, who was still attached to his umbilical cord and placenta, was immediately taken to Penang Hospital for medical treatment.

Following a review of CCTV footage, police arrested a 23-year-old Malaysian woman at the Bukit Jambul Complex. Authorities also detained a 22-year-old Myanmar national, who reportedly works as a security guard and was found without valid travel documents.

Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab stated that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code regarding the abandonment of a child under 12 years of age. Forensic teams have collected samples from the scene for chemical analysis as the investigation continues.
