From Wednesday through August 3‑4 a strong meltemi is expected to intensify over the Aegean Sea and eastern Greek mainland, producing very strong north‑western winds. The wind pattern is driven by a pressure difference between high pressure over the Balkans and low pressure over Asia Minor.

The intensified winds raise a very high fire risk in Attica, Evia, Boeotia, eastern Peloponnese, the Cyclades, Crete and the eastern Aegean islands. Temperatures will stay elevated at 29‑33 °C in eastern and southern Greece and 33‑37 °C in western, central and northern Greece and the Dodecanese. A new heat surge is forecast for August 4‑5, possibly reaching 37 °C and could last until about August 10, after which temperature trends become uncertain.
