Newborns found abandoned in India and Thailand

Two separate incidents of infant abandonment have been reported in India and Thailand.

In the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, India, a newborn girl was discovered in a forested area near Dungariya Khurd village. A shepherd found the infant lying in rainwater amidst thorny bushes. Police reported that the baby, who appeared to have been exposed to the elements for several hours, was admitted to the Sick Newborn Care Unit at Raisen District Hospital for treatment of injuries and weakness. Authorities have registered a case against unknown persons and are investigating nearby villages to identify the parents.

In Chiang Mai, Thailand, a five-day-old baby girl was found abandoned in roadside grass in the Doi Saket district. A passerby heard the infant crying and alerted the Doi Saket Police Station. The baby, wrapped in a brown towel, was taken to Doi Saket Hospital. While reported to be in generally good health, she remains under medical observation. Local police are reviewing CCTV footage and hospital birth records to identify those responsible.
