Newcastle and Central Coast to co-host 2027 Australian Masters Games

The 21st Australian Masters Games will be co-hosted by Newcastle and the Central Coast from 13–20 November 2027. This marks the return of the biannual event to New South Wales for the first time in over 25 years.

The games, which celebrate their 40th anniversary, are expected to attract between 8,000 and 10,000 athletes aged 30 to 90. Competitors will participate in as many as 40 different sports. While original plans included several neighboring councils, the event will proceed with Newcastle and the Central Coast after other regions withdrew due to cost concerns.

polytec Stadium on the Central Coast will serve as the Athletes’ Hub and host the Closing Ceremony. Local leaders, including Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna and Newcastle Lord Mayor Gavin Morris, highlighted the event as a significant driver for tourism and economic activity for their respective regions.
