Newcastle childcare centers ordered to close due to insolvency
Two Newcastle childcare businesses, including locations in Honeysuckle and Charlestown, have been ordered to close by the Supreme Court of Victoria after being found insolvent. The court ordered the companies to be wound up and appointed a liquidator.
Former employees of the Charlestown site reported significant financial disputes, including allegations of unpaid superannuation, incorrect wages, and delays in workers' compensation payments. One former staff member reported being owed at least $3,000 in superannuation, while another trainee alleged being paid approximately $2 less per hour than the award wage.
The winding-up applications were initiated by creditors, including a cleaning company owed $12,000 and the NSW Workers Compensation Nominal Insurer, which claimed over $30,000 was owed for the Charlestown site. While some creditors, such as an accounting firm and the cleaning company, have since resolved their debts, the court proceedings concluded with the insolvency orders.
