Newcastle Council to pitch upgraded strategic sports plan
The City of Newcastle Council is preparing to pitch an upgraded strategic sports plan to address the needs of a growing population. Following a consultation process that received over 1,600 responses, the council identified key priorities including improved lighting, upgraded playing surfaces, and better drainage to increase the reliability and capacity of local facilities.
The review of the original 10-year plan, adopted in 2020, was prompted by shifting participation trends, population growth, and climate impacts. Feedback indicated that 88% of respondents use sporting facilities for casual recreation and exercise, highlighting the need to balance organized sports with casual use.
