A private poultry farm in Kysuce, Slovakia, experienced an outbreak of Newcastle disease, also known as pseudomor hydiny. Laboratory analysis confirmed the disease within 24 hours, and about 90% of chicks and pullets died in a matter of hours.

Authorities from the State Veterinary and Food Administration (ŠVPS) and the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration of Čadca (RVPS) depopulated the farm humanely, removed carcasses, and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the premises. A temporary ban on restocking the farm with new poultry was imposed.

Epidemiological investigation traced the likely source to poultry bought at a market in another Slovak region, which originated from an unregistered farm in the Czech Republic. The seller was fined for lacking required health documentation and for illegal transport of live birds.
