Newcastle Knights face Penrith Panthers in NRL preliminary final
The Newcastle Knights are preparing for an NRL preliminary final against the Penrith Panthers following a significant turnaround from last place on the ladder to the top four within 12 months. The match serves as a Grand Final qualifier, with the Panthers entering as favorites.
Knights forward Mat Croker highlighted the intense sense of responsibility the team feels representing the Newcastle region. Croker noted that the team has used being underestimated as motivation, crediting head coach Justin Holbrook and defense coach Brett White for building a resilient pack. The Knights enter the match following an upset victory over the New Zealand Warriors at Eden Park.
In addition to the NRL finals, several players from regional areas are competing in various grand finals this weekend, including the NSW Cup and NSW Women's Premiership deciders.
