Scopely's Pokémon GO Marks 10 Years with 1 B Downloads and Rebrand
The mobile game Pokémon GO celebrated its 10th anniversary in July 2026. Scopely, which acquired Niantic’s games business for $3.5 billion in 2025, reported more than 1 billion total downloads, over 800 million active players and more than $1 billion in revenue for 2025 alone. A surprise live event in New York’s Times Square featured a giant Mewtwo battle, and a free global Pokémon GO Fest was held on July 11‑12.
Scopely announced that the Niantic development team will now operate under the name “Scopely Explore,” prompting a logo change on the launch screens of Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now. Players are encouraged to capture screenshots of the old logos before they disappear.
The milestone also highlighted the game’s cultural impact. Vice‑president Michael Steranka said, “Pokémon Go will always start with community – we often receive wedding invites from players who met through Pokémon Go.” Content creator Zoë Kinder, a Newcastle‑based mother who left her job to become a full‑time Pokémon GO streamer, exemplifies how the game has created new careers and encouraged outdoor activity worldwide.
