Newcastle Ocean Baths redesign plan seeks swimmer input and council approval

Architect Peter Shaddock has presented a new design for stage two of the Newcastle Ocean Baths that incorporates many of the swimmers' requests. The proposal replaces previously suggested restaurants with a simple café, adds open‑air changing rooms and aims to reduce costs for ratepayers.

The plan is awaiting approval from Newcastle City Council and heritage authorities. Community advocates Peter Wickham and Christine Everingham have praised the draft for giving locals a stronger voice after earlier consultation rounds were criticised as insufficient.
