Christian Wade equals Premiership try record as Newcastle defeats Sale

Christian Wade equalled Chris Ashton’s all-time Gallagher Premiership try-scoring record, scoring his 101st career try during Newcastle Red Bulls’ 17-3 victory over Sale Sharks at Kingston Park.

In a match played in windy and difficult conditions, Sale Sharks initially led 3-0 at halftime following a penalty by George Ford. Newcastle took control in the second half when Wade sprinted to the right corner in the 49th minute to reach the milestone. Captain George McGuigan added a second try for the Red Bulls via a line-out maul, while Josh Hodge contributed seven points through a conversion and two penalties.

The win marks Newcastle’s first league victory of the season. Wade’s achievement follows a diverse sporting career that included stints with Wasps, Racing 92, and a period in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
