Nico Gonzalez joins Newcastle United from Manchester City in £52m deal

Newcastle United has reached an agreement to sign Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City. The transfer is reported to be worth a package of approximately £52 million, consisting of a guaranteed £48 million plus an additional £4 million in potential add-ons.

Gonzalez, 24, is expected to wear the number 6 shirt at St. James’ Park. His arrival is seen as a strategic move by Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle to rebuild the midfield following the departures of key players Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali. The midfielder, a former Barcelona academy product, has completed his medical and is set to become the club's seventh senior signing of the summer.

For Manchester City, the sale marks the departure of the fourth midfielder this summer, following the exits of Bernardo Silva, Rodri, and Tijjani Reijnders. The club continues to reshape its squad, having recently invested in players like Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi.
