Newcastle United sign French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for £24m

Newcastle United have completed the signing of 20‑year‑old French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims. The transfer fee is reported at around £24 million (approximately €28.5 million including add‑ons) and the player has agreed a four‑year contract running to June 2030.

Jaouen, a France under‑21 international, impressed in Ligue 2 with Reims, recording 15 clean sheets in 34 league games and featuring in a Coupe de France penalty shoot‑out victory over Lille. The fee makes him the most expensive goalkeeper ever purchased from France’s second division and the club’s record purchase for a keeper.

The move follows Newcastle’s departure of Aaron Ramsdale, John Ruddy and Max Thompson, and is expected to provide competition for incumbent senior keeper Nick Pope. Reports suggest the club may consider selling Pope in the near future, with interest from Ipswich Town and Leeds United.
