Newcastle United nears deal for Benfica defender Amar Dedic
Newcastle United is in advanced negotiations to sign Benfica defender Amar Dedic. The 23-year-old Bosnian international has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Premier League club, with a contract potentially lasting until 2031.
Transfer talks are currently focused on the final fee. While Benfica has sought a figure around €35 million, Newcastle has countered with offers in the region of £28 million to €30 million. The move would reunite Dedic with Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle, having previously worked together at Red Bull Salzburg.
Dedic, who can play as a right-back, left-back, or centre-back, is viewed as a vital reinforcement for Newcastle's defensive depth. The club is seeking options following fitness concerns regarding Tino Livramento and injuries to other squad members.
