Arsenal Football Club and Newcastle United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães. The clubs settled on a fixed fee of £75 million, paid upfront with no add‑ons, which is reported as about €87 million. The deal follows a series of rejected offers from Newcastle, which had previously turned down bids of £70 million and an £80 million package. Guimarães, 28, is Newcastle’s captain and has two years remaining on his five‑year contract, with a release clause that expired in June 2024. He has expressed a strong desire to join the Premier League champions and is expected to travel from the club’s pre‑season camp in La Manga, Spain, for a medical examination. The transfer fee will provide Newcastle with a substantial windfall; the French club Lyon is entitled to 20 percent of any profit Newcastle makes on the sale. The £75 million fee also breaks the world record for a midfielder over the age of 28. Newcastle plan to use the proceeds to recruit a replacement midfielder, with names such as Felix Nmecha mentioned as targets.
