Newcastle United hit with €6 million UEFA fine and new spending caps

UEFA fined Newcastle United a total of €6 million (£5.1 million, $6.9 million) for breaching its financial sustainability rules, including exceeding the 70 percent squad‑cost ratio in 2025. The club also entered a three‑year compliance agreement that sets strict targets for earnings deficits and limits on wage and transfer spending for the 2026‑27, 2027‑28 and 2028‑29 reporting periods.

The settlement means Newcastle must operate within tighter financial constraints during the summer transfer window, affecting how much they can spend on wages, amortised fees and agent costs. While the Premier League’s own limits are higher, the UEFA rules will govern the club’s European‑related transactions and could shape their ability to sign new players until the agreed targets are met.
