Newcastle United leads pursuit of Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez

Newcastle United have opened formal enquiries about signing Colombian forward Luis Suárez from Sporting CP. The Portuguese club has set a high price, reportedly demanding the full release clause – figures range from €50‑60 million up to €80 million – and is not inclined to lower it. Suarez, 28, finished his debut season in Portugal with 35 goals and nine assists across all competitions, contributing to 44 goal involvements for Sporting.

Newcastle, who missed out on European competition after a poor campaign and whose recent signings Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have underperformed, see Suarez as a priority target to revamp their attack. The club appears to be ahead of rivals Liverpool and Barcelona, which are also monitoring the player. Suarez is under contract until 2030 and is expected to demand a salary of €7‑9 million per year.

If Newcastle meet Sporting’s valuation, the move would represent one of the club’s biggest summer investments and could significantly boost their goal‑scoring capability ahead of the next Premier League season.
