Newcastle United eyes Czech keeper Horníček and Italian defender Scalvini
Newcastle United are actively pursuing Czech international goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček from SC Braga. The Portuguese club has set a release clause of about €30 million (≈£29.5 million), and the Premier League side is reported to be close to making a deal.
The club is also in pole position to sign 22‑year‑old Italian centre‑back Giorgio Scalvini. Atalanta, after missing out on Champions League qualification, is reportedly willing to sell for around €45 million to rebalance its finances. Scalvini has already amassed 137 appearances for Atalanta and earned eight caps for Italy.
In addition, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has indicated a desire to leave his club, with Newcastle mentioned as a potential destination. Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said he does not want to convince Bergvall to stay.
Newcastle’s current defensive lineup includes ageing players Dan Burn and Fabian Schar (both 34) and an injury‑prone Sven Botman, prompting the club to seek new signings to strengthen the back line.
