Newcastle United Pursues Juventus Defender Lloyd Kelly as Key Players Linked with Moves

Newcastle United are reported to be leading the race to re‑sign former defender Lloyd Kelly, who currently plays for Juventus. The club, whose defensive record was among the poorest in the Premier League last season, have been linked with the 24‑year‑old centre‑back, with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest also monitoring his situation. Kelly, who joined Juventus on a permanent deal last summer and is contracted until 2029, previously played under Eddie Howe at Bournemouth and earlier at Newcastle.

At the same time, the Magpies face criticism for not delivering on promises of reaching the "next level" after finishing 12th and missing European competition. Former midfielder Jermaine Jenas noted that several marquee players are now being linked with moves away: Anthony Gordon has already joined Barcelona, Sandro Tonali is reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham and Manchester City, and England full‑back Lewis Hall is being monitored by Manchester United after a PFA Young Player of the Year nomination. Financial constraints are limiting Newcastle’s ability to retain top talent, prompting speculation that the club may need to sell players to fund new signings.
