Newcastle United signs defender Charlie McArthur and pursues goalkeeper James Trafford
Defender Charlie McArthur, a 21‑year‑old who failed to break through at Newcastle United, has joined League Two side York City FC after his contract expired. McArthur previously played for Kilmarnock, spent a loan spell at Carlisle United and half a season with Airdrieonians, and has captained Scotland’s U‑17 team.
Newcastle United are also reported to be targeting England international goalkeeper James Trafford. The 23‑year‑old, currently on Manchester City’s books, is expected to clarify his future in the coming days, with the Magpies willing to spend £35‑45 million. A move could see veteran keeper Nick Pope depart. Other clubs showing interest include Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Juventus.
