Newcastle United targets Fikayo Tomori to strengthen defense
Newcastle United is monitoring AC Milan central defender Fikayo Tomori as a potential addition during the January transfer window. The 28-year-old English defender, who has over 200 appearances for the Serie A club, is being considered to address defensive vulnerabilities under manager Matthias Jaissle.
Jaissle’s tactical approach, which utilizes an elevated defensive line and intense pressing, has left the squad exposed to high numbers of opposition shots. Recent matches, including a 4-1 defeat against Leeds United and a game against Hull City where the opposition recorded 35 touches inside the penalty area, have highlighted the need for reinforcements.
With Tomori’s contract set to expire in June 2027, Newcastle may be able to secure a cost-effective deal in January. The club is looking for experienced players to support aging defenders Dan Burn and Fabian Schär as they attempt to stabilize their 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
