Newegg launches AI‑powered conversational shopping assistant
Newegg announced the rollout of a conversational artificial‑intelligence feature called “AI mode” on its e‑commerce platform. The tool lets shoppers describe products in plain language, refine queries, swap components, adjust budgets and keep the conversation context while browsing. It draws from Newegg’s live catalog, incorporating real‑time pricing, inventory, “Shell Shocker” deals, OpenBox listings and combos, and displays selected items in a side‑panel that remains accessible through checkout. An on‑page assistant is also available on any product page to answer questions, check compatibility and guide deal decisions.
The AI assistant is integrated with Newegg’s own PC Builder and PC Upgrade tools and can be accessed via desktop and mobile browsers. Newegg has also embedded its catalog into an OpenAI ChatGPT app, allowing users to browse its inventory within ChatGPT conversations. The launch was highlighted in Newegg’s Q1 2026 earnings release, where CEO Anthony Chow noted the company’s broader AI strategy despite a year‑over‑year decline in sales and gross merchandise volume.
