Newell's Old Boys player detained with loaded firearm in Rosario
Pablo Eloy Altamirano, a 21-year-old midfielder for Newell's Old Boys, was detained in Rosario after police discovered a loaded firearm in a vehicle. The incident occurred late Tuesday night following a 911 call from a resident who reported seeing individuals with a weapon near a black Fiat Pulse Abarth.
During the subsequent police intervention, authorities seized a 9mm Bersa semi-automatic pistol, a magazine, five bullets, and the vehicle. Altamirano and a 27-year-old companion were charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
Following the arrest, the leadership of Newell's Old Boys is evaluating the possibility of terminating Altamirano's contract, which is set to expire at the end of 2027. The player had previously been removed from the professional squad and reassigned to the reserve team due to various disciplinary issues.
