Newhall crime: Two arrests made following machete attack and attempted robbery

Two separate violent incidents were reported in Newhall, California.

In the first incident, James O’Rourke, 45, was arrested for attempted murder following a machete attack at Creekview Park. According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, a disagreement led the suspect to strike a victim multiple times in the head, torso, and legs. The victim required stitches and was transported to a hospital.

In a second incident, Anthony Mazzuzza, 34, was arrested for attempted robbery at a Wells Fargo ATM on Lyons Avenue. Deputies reported that Mazzuzza engaged in a verbal altercation with a victim before attempting to steal cash. During the encounter, deputies deployed a Taser, and Mazzuzza was subsequently transported to a hospital for evaluation of Taser barbs found in his abdomen.
