Newmont Ahafo South Mine Deploys Cat 6040 Next‑Generation Shovel in Ghana

Newmont’s Ahafo South mine in Ghana has commissioned a Cat® 6040 Next Generation hydraulic mining shovel supplied by Mantrac Ghana. The equipment is the first of its kind within Newmont and one of only three such shovels operating worldwide, featuring a larger bucket, higher breakout force, reinforced undercarriage, twin Cat® C32B engines and a suite of safety systems including fire suppression, enhanced visibility and emergency egress.

General Manager Alex Kofi Annin said the shovel marks an important milestone for the mine, underscoring Newmont’s commitment to safety, reliability and operational performance. The investment is intended to boost productivity, extend equipment life and support long‑term value creation for employees, host communities and shareholders.
