Newmont resumes Cerro Negro operations following Santa Cruz agreement

Newmont has gradually resumed operations at the Cerro Negro gold mine in Santa Cruz, Argentina, following negotiations with provincial authorities to lift temporary suspensions. The Cerro Negro site is one of the highest-grade underground gold mines in South America, with reserves exceeding 2 million ounces.

The resumption follows government demands regarding safety, hygiene, and labor regulations. Provincial officials emphasized the necessity for Newmont to comply with Law 90/10, which mandates the prioritization of local employment. The provincial administration expressed a commitment to balancing mining investment with strict adherence to operational safety and the protection of local workers' rights.

As part of the next steps in the negotiation process, the provincial government intends to include labor union representatives in discussions to reach a consensus on future operations and labor standards.
