Newport Beach Council Allocates $1.5 M for Police HQ Feasibility Study

The Newport Beach City Council approved roughly $1.5 million for a preliminary review of a possible new police headquarters at Civic Center Park. The funding covers a $713,000 contract with Irvine‑based LPA for a conceptual architectural design, a $346,000 environmental study, and about $315,000 for a public‑outreach campaign that will produce FAQs and hold town‑hall meetings.

City Manager Seimone Jurjis said the Civic Center site presents many unanswered questions, and the council is also considering alternative locations such as a city‑owned property on Dove Street. Residents voiced strong opposition, arguing the process lacks transparency and that the park’s green space and sculpture garden would be compromised.
