Newquay keyworker housing plans refused by Cornwall Council
Cornwall Council has rejected a planning application to convert and partially demolish properties at 23 and 25 Berry Road in Newquay. The proposal aimed to create 15 one-bedroom flats intended for keyworkers by adding an extra storey and extending existing units.
Despite support from Newquay Town Council and local residents, planning officers determined the development would be an “unduly overbearing” and “oppressive presence.” The decision noted the scheme would create a “dominant” and “jarring” feature that would negatively impact the street scene. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding whether the development would provide adequate living conditions for its future occupiers.
