Newquay tenants face eviction due to building degradation

Residents of the Aqua Blue Apartments in Newquay are facing potential homelessness following eviction notices issued for the building. The complex, constructed in 2008, has been deemed structurally degraded due to exposure to the elements. The owner, Interceptor Opportunities Ltd, plans to invest hundreds of thousands of pounds to repair the roof, cladding, and flooring.

Thirty-four tenants were notified they must vacate by October 29. While the owner has pledged that residents will have first refusal to return once repairs are complete, tenants expressed concerns that rising rental costs may make returning unaffordable. Many residents report difficulty finding alternative housing, noting that one-bedroom rentals in Newquay have increased to approximately £1,000 per month, a 25 per cent increase over their current rates.
