News24 media outlet faces condemnation over alleged government pressure

Albanian political figures are condemning the treatment of the television station News24, marking one year since the violent interruption of its signal.

Agron Shehaj, leader of the Mundësia Party, characterized the situation as a continuous criminal attack by the government against a media outlet that reports on citizen protests. Shehaj argued that the government rewards those who serve its interests while using state resources to pressure critical voices, calling this an unacceptable standard for a country seeking EU membership.

Former President Ilir Meta also issued a statement describing the signal interruption as a criminal act against media freedom and free speech in Albania. Meta accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of undermining accountability and treating independent media as a threat to the regime, alleging that independent journalists face increasing intimidation and threats.
