Newt Gingrich warns of Democratic Socialism surge in memo to Senate Republicans

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich circulated a strategy memo titled “The Republican Opportunity to Win Big in 2026” to Senate Republicans. The document argues that the Democratic Party’s greatest vulnerability is the recent rise of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)‑backed candidates who have won primaries in New York and Colorado and are poised for contests in Michigan and Wisconsin. Gingrich characterises this “big‑government socialism” as a policy that does not create jobs, raise wages, or improve health, and urges Republicans to frame the 2026 elections as a referendum on those policies. He warns that if Democrats continue on this path they could face a historic “annihilation,” comparing the scenario to the early‑19th‑century decline of the Federalist Party. The memo, obtained by the New York Post, also notes that some DSA members have publicly pledged support for China, highlighting the group’s growing ideological alignment with foreign socialist models.
